We all love our dogs and want to help them, but sometimes that help has the opposite effect of what we intend! That’s what I’m covering in this episode, so you can get the behaviour you really want. Learn how letting go of control will have your dog buy-in to your training and create a relationship of mutual happiness.
In the episode you'll hear:
- About triggers, opposition reflex and drive.
- What self control really is, and how our control is an illusion.
- How games are a win for everyone even if there’s a fail (yes … the F word!).
- Why your dog’s buy-in to your training results in a lifetime of joy.
I’m gradually working through your podcasts having just signed up for HStD and I had a real wry ‘DUH’ moment listening to this one. Me & dog, walking along the road, car with rattly trailer goes past (a REALLY hard to ignore distraction…gotta chase this one mum) and as I hate him ‘practising’ pulling on his lead I HOLD OUT MY LEG!!!!! Oh boy…well, I now know yet another thing I will be working on 😀 Loving all the Podcasts so far.
thankyou so much I have been listening to these, but prefer the visual ! I admit to “helping” my dog It is frustrating as I now need to go back!!! I need to be more patient and slow.
I really like your podcasts. I liked the part about control. It’s true in dog training and relationships. People just want to control everything and everyone but the real art is to act and treat others so they make their own free choice to engage and be with us.
