It’s important to know what you and your dog need for learning success, and how “lizard brain” can take over if something is lacking. I’m sharing an extract of the book I am writing, and it’s about one of the life shifting lessons I learned from a student.
In the episode you'll hear:
- How Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs applies to you and your dog.
- The life shifting lesson I was taught by a student.
- Recognizing when lizard brain takes over, and why.
I’m just so glad I stumbled upon this podcast/page/trainer. You have changed my life and my dog’s life already! I have a new, well-bred puppy and this is the content I’ve needed so desperately to hear!!! Thank you, Susan!!!
I loved Podcast #7 because we can use this information in our daily lives. Susan, I love your honesty-that was a great share. Your book that you are working on sounds motivating, as I start my new journey in the Recallers Program.
I totally agree with the methods being used! I’m looking forward to getting to something to keep my 10 year old lab from running for the highway if he gets out without being on a lead and at what point I will be able to trust my 4 month old golden retriever to be without a lead.
My 3 year old dog has a similar reaction around other dogs after I have done 2 years of games based training. In this state he looks hilarious and I love him but obviously don’t encourage it
I will add itsyerchoice to our training🤞
Love your podcast. So much more than dog training
Very greatly.
This was sooooooo good! The 20 plus minutes felt like 5 minutes. I look forward to your future book publication. Thanks for sharing!
Wow!!!
Susan all I can say is I can not wait until I get my hands on your book you are writing!!
Awesome Podcast as usual!!
Great chat & very thought provoking in so many ways!
5 stars for sure 😊
G’day, I am thorougjly enjoying listening to your podcast. You mentioned a link to “itsyourchoice”. I can’t track it down. I’d love to know more and watch a demonstration if available.
Cheers.
I absolutely loved this!! I am in graduate school in the medical field and saw Maslow’s hierarchy of needs in a lecture just yesterday! As soon as you mentioned it I was hooked and thought to myself “of course, why wouldn’t that apply to dogs too, I can’t believe I never thought of that”. This talk hit home for me, I have been working extremely hard lately to watch my tone of voice and using compassion more when talking with friends and loved ones. I really appreciated you sharing your story about Dr. Donna. Can’t wait to hear what you have next! I would love some more talks on things you do with your dogs outside of planned training such as food choices, collar/leash preference, things to watch out for in treat marketing etc. This is my first time having a dog of my own and growing up the family dog was what you referred to in a previous talk as “furniture”. I am very interested in your style of training and encouraging the dogs to make good choices on their own and have as much freedom as possible while ensuring they are safe and comfortable with it! Thanks so much Susan.
So how do you not judge but guide your dog or anyone. I love the podcasts. I am a good listener but a poor reader. And the fact that I can listen over and over til I get it is great!
